Training description
Target group
You are a manager with two or more years of experience in supervising others and you are involved with various activities, causing you to be overly influenced by what is happening in the present. You would like to gain more structure and consistency in how you manage your time.
Results
After completing the training course, you will be better able to distinguish major tasks from minor ones in your work, and thus effectively set priorities. Your work pressure will become more manageable, and the organisation of your work will improve. You will gain insight into how you normally view interaction with others. You will learn how to influence those around you who will naturally also try to do this with you.
Contents
- How can I formulate goals for myself and others?
- How can I set priorities, and carry them out?
- Which tasks should I delegate, and how do I do that?
- What is preventing me from organising my work well?
Approach
- For three days before the training, you will keep track of how you spend your time.
- Analyse how you spend your time.
- Practise various planning techniques.
- In the meantime, apply what you've learned based on an action plan.
- Book: Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen.
Detailed
As a manager, you are confronted with a variety of tasks daily. Meetings, employees who want to be coached, telephone calls. Part of these are possible to schedule, and the rest "just happen". During training courses, managers regularly tell us how they are busy all day long, but don't always get around to doing the things they actually want to do during a particular day. During this day and a half training course, we discuss two themes within the theme of time management: effectiveness and efficiency. Do you do the right things and do you do them in the least possible amount of time? It is in fact possible to be extremely efficient in your work, however if these things are actually not crucial to achieving your goals, you are not working effectively. First, we take a look at your current time management: what is preventing you from effectively managing your time? Next, we examine what you can do to remove these impediments. We give you practical tips and help you to re-examine your own priorities in light of the goals you set for yourself. Taking the tools you have acquired, you will continually apply these to your individual work situation. Next, we discuss efficiency: what are ways of saving time during the day and planning your days the best you can? Finally, we also look at how you can remain relaxed in managing your time, and not to let it run your life: how do you maintain the balance between hard work and relaxation? Between the sessions, you will complete assignments so you can put what you have learned into practise. During the second session, we examine what has worked and what hasn't, and why. We take a close look at any impediments you are still experiencing, for example setting limits for others and clearly communicating what you want and expect from others.
